Halloween

Halloween Night

Sunday, November 1st, 2009

Well the kids had a great Halloween!

The fun started on Friday night for the big kids who stayed the night at their Grandma’s house after going to the Halloween party at her Church. They said the Haunted House was awesome! Both kids received plenty of candy at the trunk-or-treat.

trunk-or-treat-carYesterday morning, the tiny tots helped Mama finish decorating the front porch and helped decorate our car for the trunk-or-treat. It turned out really cute! We then cleaned the house while listening to the Monster Mash over and over. By the time we were finished, E knew the words pretty well!

B had a baseball game in the afternoon, and they won. Yay! Following the game, we headed over to our Church’s party and trunk-or-treat.

As we were leaving the game and loading up our car, A (the baby) tripped and cut her forehead open! Blood was everywhere and I was sure we’d be spending the rest of our day at the Urgent Care. But I managed to get the bleeding stopped and A seemed okay. So we finished getting everyone into their costumes and headed to the party.

e-trunk-or-treatA was asleep when we arrived so the big kids to took E to play all of the games while I watched A and set up our car for the trunk-or-treat. E had so much fun, the big kids helped her win lots of goodies and took her to get her face painted.

Later Mama and E ate chili and cornbread while the big kids played some games on their own.

The big kids took E around for the trunk-or-treat while I handed out candy. A woke up about half-way through. She was sleepy at first and helped me pass out candy until she realized what was going on. She woke up real fast, hopped down and headed out with big sister to fill up her treat bag.

A and E were BEAMING by the time they finished with near full bags! They really had a great time.

kids-trunk-or-treatWe then headed home where Daddy had started handing out candy to trick-or-treaters. The big kids went to a few houses that were really decorated on our street. When they got back, their bags were FULL so Mama said enough and they headed off together to count and trade their goods.

While the big ones were out, we watched Charlie Brown and the Great Pumpkin and handed out candy. A and E handed out the candy and they ran to the door every time they heard a knock. We kept telling E, give two pieces of candy, but she’d grab a handful and toss it in. A decided to do the same so every kid who came to our house last night went home with a lot of candy. I’m sure they didn’t mind!

When all was said and done, the kids ended up with A LOT of candy! The floor was covered, I can’t imagine how they will ever eat it all.

I am really thankful for all of the people at church who put together such a great party for the kids. And to all of our neighbors who take the time to decorate and pass out goodies. It really makes the holidays so much fun for the kiddies.

Hope everyone else had a great night :)

Visit to the Pumpkin Patch

Monday, October 26th, 2009

While the grandparents from California where here last week, we ventured out to the pumpkin patch! Our oldest daughter and one of her Grandma’s opted to skip pumpkins and headed to the mall instead. Hence her absence from these pics.

pumpkin-patch-pumpkinsIt was a special day for the Boy Scouts (and schools too it appeared) at Buckelew Farms in Tucson. Unfortunately, at the last minute no one else from our pack was able to make it, but we had a good time anways.

The excellent Mama I am, I forgot my camera! So I had to rely on my horrible camera phone. Oh well.

pumpkin-patch-abigailAs expected, it was really warm. :(

As you can see, I dressed the little ones in their LONG SLEEVE Halloween shirts. Not the best idea. Short sleeves next year. We were really feeling the heat out in the patch but under the tent, where we ate, it was much cooler.

The little ones loved the hay ride out to the patch. A worker from the farm sang songs and we waved at everyone as we passed. They REALLY enjoyed finding their pumpkins! I was sure E would try to find the biggest pumpkin in the field but she didn’t.

She wanted “a little pumpkin because I’m little” is what she told me.

pumpkin-patch-kids-pumpkinsB and Papa braved the corn maze while Grandma, tiny tots and Mom enjoyed french fries and lemonade. The food is expensive, but good. We could have brought our own lunches but I didn’t want to bring the stroller or ice chest.

I was bummed because the petting zoo wasn’t open. I was really looking forward to that for the little ones.

Buckelew Farms is no Phillips Farm (my childhood pumpkin patch in Lodi, California) but the kids had a great time.

Good enough for me :)

Halloween Crafts: Hand Bats

Friday, October 23rd, 2009

halloween-bat-craft-9After watching an old Fall/Halloween Barney video, we felt inspired to make these bats!

So easy, even the tiny tots were able to join in.

You will need:

  • Black & white construction paper
  • Scissors
  • Glue
  • Pencil or white crayon
  • Black crayon, colored pencil, or marker

halloween-bat-craft-1Step One:
Fold the black construction paper in half. Using a pencil or white crayon, trace your child’s hand onto the black paper.

halloween-bat-craft-2Depending upon the size of your child’s hand, you will end up with 2-4 “bats” traced onto the paper.

Step Two
Cut out the “bats” you traced. Open the bats flat on the table.

halloween-bat-craft-3Note: On the Barney movie, the kids cut off the thumbs from the hands. We did this a few times, but we also left the thumbs on some of them. You can decide whether or not to cut off the thumbs on your own bats.

Step Three
You now need to cut out “eyes” for your bats. Take the white construction paper and cut out circles.

halloween-bat-craft-4Once your circles are all cut out, you can take a black crayon and draw small circles in the middle.

If you want to make scary bats, use red for the eyes instead.

halloween-bat-craft-5Step Four
Glue the eyes onto your bats using glue or tape.

That’s it!

halloween-bat-craft-6Your bats are now ready to be hung up on the wall, window, door or wherever you like.

Like I said before, these are so easy to make.Even the baby (23 months) really enjoyed making her own.

Easy and really cheap!

Have fun making your bats! :)

Saturday at the ballpark

Saturday, October 10th, 2009

We spent the morning at the ball park where B had a game. They won 12-4.

It was pretty cold when we left our house but by the time the game started, it had warmed up. Mr. Sun left his mark on our happy faces.

The tiny tots stayed busy as usual with rocks, eating at the snack shop, and playing with friends.

I just uploaded some Halloween worksheets.

I also added a fun little booklet titled Halloween Fun. It’s 20 pages of Halloween recipes, games and field trip/activities for the family. The kids love the recipe for Mummy Dogs, be sure to print it out.

Stay tuned for Monday, I will be posting the schdule for ABC Family 13 Nights of Halloween!

I am HUGE fan of October-December.

Love the weather.
Love the decorations.
Love the food.
Love the TV movies!

I admit, I love the holidays. I have very found memories of making crafts in school, having parties. Everyone was always so happy and smiling.

disney-channel-wiztoberOne of the things I look forward to every year are watching the same old holiday movies on TV. Not a big TV fan usually, but I make exception for kid friendly stuff.

If you like Halloween, and watch the Disney Channel, here is the line up for Disney Channel’s Wiz-tober.

Not big fans of Wizards of Waverly, Suite Life on Deck, Hannah Montana, etc but compared to the nonsense on the other kid channels, these shows are all pretty harmless.

We enjoy watching our shows with popcorn and other Halloween and Fall treats!

Have fun :)
