Product Overview (from Publisher): Explode The Code provides the systematic and explicit phonics instruction that students need to become effective readers. Using Explode The Code, your students will build skills in Phonological and Phonemic Awareness, Decoding and Encoding, Vocabulary, Comprehension, Fluency, and Writing. This research-based and teacher-tested program meets and exceeds “No Child Left Behind” requirements and National Reading Panel standards.

Jada with her Explode the Code book

My Review: Both of my kids having been using Explode the Code since before the could read. We started each of them with the Primer (A, B and C) books and have moved onto the others. We stopped Jada at book 5 as she no longer needed any phonics work. I did not purchase or use the teacher manuals.

These books practice not only phonics (not to mention grammar practice in the higher books) but also gives my kids a daily of handwriting practice. My kids love these books and have no problem working at their own pace through the lessons.

They learned so much from these books, I plan on using them with the baby when she is ready in a few years (plus any others who join our family in the future). I recommend these books to everyone I know, homeschooling or not.

Do you use Explode the Code with your children? Or used it in the past?

Tell me what your experiences have been with this curriculum, I'd love to include your thoughts here for other homeschool parents.

Reader Submitted Curriculum Reviews

"My son used this curriculum and really enjoyed it. His printing is very nice. He is left- handed, and I appreciated the tips geared toward lefties. I have been very pleased with this curriculum and will continue to use it."
