Curriculum We Use

Here is an overview of what we are using for school this year.

saxon-math-diveMATH: Saxon Math with D.I.V.E.

How did I ever homeschool without D.I.V.E.? It has been the best investment. My kids pop the cd into their laptops, open their books and start math. No lesson plans, no flipping through the teachers manual trying to find the answer to their question. What a time saving tool for Mom. Plus my kids understand math better than ever.

Where did I buy it? I compared 4 or 5 stores (as I usually do) to find the best deal on Saxon. Christian Book has package deals on Saxon plus D.I.V.E. providing a big savings over other retailers. I recommend buying your set from Christian Book.

wordly-wiseVOCABULARY: Wordly Wise 3000

My kids love these workbooks. So easy to use, the kids are able to work on their own with little assistance from Mom. Lessons include critical thinking and reading comprehension.

Where did I buy it? It seems like every year I buy these from somewhere different. Past purchases have been from Amazon, LDFR, and Christian Book. I compared all 3 retailers on August 6th 2009 and found that Christian Book had the best price.

story-of-the-worldHISTORY: The Story of the World

Out of all the history curriculum we have used, this has been our favorite.  We use the book plus cd’s, the activity book and then also the test booklet. It’s such an easy program for Mom to work with. We use the audio cds to make sure we pronounce things correctly.

Where did I buy it: I bought the book, audio cd’s and activity guide from LDFR. The test booklet I oredered directly from the publisher. The publisher also sells a student pack, which I bought, making it so easy to make copies for each of the kids.

christian-kids-explore-biologySCIENCE: Christian Kids Explore Biology

This is an excellent book for teaching your children biology without forgetting who created this world and it’s inhabitants in the first place: GOD. The book has 35 lessons, each including teaching lessons, coloring pages, hands-on time, memorization lists, review sheets, creative writing assignments and more. We spend one week on each lesson. My only complaint about this book it that it’s hard to make copies of things for my kids because of the binding. Otherwise, we look forward to using the other science titles by this same publisher.

Where did I buy it? I purchased our book a few years ago from Amazon. I did some research and seems that they still have the lowest price for it!

easy-grammar-grade-5GRAMMAR: Easy Grammar

This year we are using Easy Grammar 4 and Easy Grammar 5. I have been searching for something that my kids could use for grammar, that would not require an overload of planning on my part. Easy Grammar thus far has met these needs perfectly. It takes the big kids roughly 30 minutes each day to complete two lessons. I purchased the optional Student Workbooks, these are not required because the main book includes the lessons in front and the answers in back.

Where did I buy it? I bought the Grammar 4 book for $25.99, the Grammar 5 book for $30.99, and the workbooks  for $12.99 each from Christian Book. I checked prices in October 2009 and Grammar 5 is $1 cheaper at Amazon, but the workbook is $1 more. Same with Grammar 4. The same is true for LDFR. So if you have a discount code for either of those sites, you may be able to buy them cheaper.
