Unschooling Method

The term unschooling was coined by John Holt. An author of ten books on education, John Holt founded the unschooling magazine Growing Without Schooling. Unschooling, referred to as “natural learning”, “child-led learning”, or “child-directed learning” is the term given to an increasingly popular method of homeschooling. Under this method, parents act as “facilitators” and are responsible for having a wide-range of resources available to provide their children with a quality education. I hear more debate over this method than any other. The argument being that if a child is put in charge of his/her learning, they will choose not to do anything at all.

Unschooling provides a unique opportunity to step away from systems and methods, and to develop independent ideas out of actual experiences, where the child is truly in pursuit of knowledge, not the other way around.
